During Event there will be a Silent Auction in Honor of Zac Griffin
Silent Auction in Honor of Zac Giffin
Ski and Snowboard Gear
Zac was a beloved Whitefish Freestyle Coach, friend and community member:
We tragically lost Zac in July earlier this year. We are auctioning Zac’s gear in hopes of keeping the equipment in our Whitefish Freestye community among those that knew, laughed with, and learned from him. Funds raised from this auction will benefit Zac’s family and if bids go over asking will go to the Whitefish Freestyle Inc, a non profilt that provides scholarships, coaching tools and training, and more for our young Freestyle ahtletes.
Organized by Kevin and Holly Hallwyler:
During our Ski Movie Film Premiere Event at the Tap House, you can bid on gear owned by Zac. Highest bids will win. Once auction is closed, you will need to send payment to @Laura-Giffin on Venmo. Proof of Venmo payment is required to collect the gear. We will have the gear available to take home after the movie concludes. Please see Lori Hurst for details.
Growing up in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Zac learned to ski at an early age on the small hills of the upper peninsula of Michigan. He loved to search out every jump, a bull spot on the slope, while his big sister serenely switched down the smoothest line.
In his early teens, the family started traveling for winter vacations to Colorado, where Zac got hooked on the B.I.G mountains. He worked at Keystone three seasons, and never left those mountains. During off-season, Zac worked with kids as a counselor in summer camps from Maine to Pennsylvania to Michigan. He loved to visit his family in Wisconsin in the summer and recently to spend time with his nephew and godson, Graham, now, four and niece June, almost 2. He often spoke of teaching them to swim, bike and ski… to adventure like their uncle Zac.
Always looking for challenges and adventure, he was also a certified scuba dive master and instructor, and held a degree in outdoor leadership and education from Pesca college in Arizona there he developed a passion for rock climbing, and was a member of the mountain bike team. He also made road ride the divide from Banff to Lander, Wyoming.
He packed a lot of living in his 36 years!
Columbia Falls, Glacier Cyclery, and Big Mountain, though, are where Zack found his home, his people, and his passion for instructing and coaching Freestyle. His love of laughter and ability to embrace being goofy, endeared him to all, so many miss him, he will be remembered by family, friends and the young people whose lives he touched.
I’d like to share lastly, a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson written in one of his notebooks, which I keep on my table and read every day.
To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children… To leave the world a better place… To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have a succeeded.
Zac surely succeeded…
